~I was just going through the "New Paintings" tab and found this~

Tracing, or coloring templates in your case, actually improves your ability.
It gives you an insight on shading, coloring and perspective from a professional's point of view. It's good practice if you're trying to improve your drawing skills as well.

So, in short, coloring templates isn't a bad thing, and trying something new for a change isn't bad either.
