Marcus was a soldier at first, but then sustained injuries that compromised his mobility, which is a big deal for pegasi soldiers.
If you can't fly, you're out.
Normally, a pegasus with such injuries would be retired. But since Marcus was so skilled, he was given the option of becoming an Elite Guard. Elite Guards are the best of the best and are tasked with very high profile duties such as guarding royals, precious artifacts and treasures, or key locations.

I never ever draw armor, so this armor design could be better than what it is.
But, despite my lack of experience with drawing armor, I think I did okay on this. Could've given it more contrast but ehh there's always next time.

Also there are three spikes on the helmet. :P
Two big ones that are sorta off to the side and one smaller one that goes between the wearer's ears.

You did great with the armor shading and texturing. Plus the design is magnificent for a first attempt. Bravo.

Since there wasn't enough space for my #kattfav tag (even with #mlp erased), I had to cut out "in combat" in the sentence "But since Marcus was so skilled in combat" so now it's "But since Marcus was so skilled"
