Please, no by NotKyloRen

When someone says they suffer from depression, you don't tell them all the things that make you feel sad. Please don't treat someone with OCD like this.

AND YOU DO NOT HAVE "A LITTLE OCD." NO!!!!!!!!!

As someone diagnosed with OCD, it is an absolute nightmare to live with the constant noise in your head. Compulsions are awful, too.

Do you think I WANT to spend over an hour in the shower every day because I HAVE to do things in order and make sure I'm 100 percent clean?? Think before you talk.

I can't even say how many times I've told people at school I have OCD (because they ask why certain things freak me out or why I do my weird compulsive actions and I finally know why) and the first thing they tell me is their "OCD tendencies" and it drives me crazy because they don't really understand what OCD even entails, aaaughh.

You guys are actually really great about not doing this, though, so don't freak out. This is a callout post to all the offline people I know, haha.

Ouch, that sucks :c
A lot of people's first reactions is to try to be empathetic because they don't know what else to do. Although they're trying to help, they don't realize that it's really doing the opposite of helping.
It must be really tough having ocd, but hang in there!
Re: oh, nah I'm fine, it's just something goofy (sorta) I can handle it.

I mean, like, I understand people are trying to empathize but it actually doesn't help. When someone goes through a hardship, it's okay to talk about your similar hardship if you have advice that can help the other person cope in some way. Even just stating it so the other person knows they aren't alone can help, too. Listing off your neatness as OCD doesn't help an OCD person because you don't fully understand what they're going through PLUS you aren't really giving them advice to help them cope with anything. You are literally relating yourself to something you only barely apply to, you know???

So I guess that's why it makes me upset, because all of the people saying stuff like this helps me in no way and does disservice to my mental illness.

I understand good intentions, but please don't!! x)
