I have seen some scenes seen in saw when I was like 13 maybe 14 and I can say with some level of confidence that it has almost nothing to with saw except for one scene where a guy saws off his own foot in order for another to escape, but it's really about deadly puzzles and games that Jigsaw wants to play with people, hence the popular phrase from the movie "I want to play a game".
