Maybe whoever they are encountering could be a duo as well. And judging by Fabi's look, i think that they have somewhat intimidating Pokemon. Alexander looks unfazed by them, though. She could mention how they look and Alexander can reassure her, making her relax much more.

STORY TIME! (finally...)

Fabi: *walking with Zap* Man, we sure have gotten far since we got here, huh Zap?
Zap: We sure have! We've discovered a buch of new Pokemon, won lots of battles, all sorts of stuff!
Fabi: Yep, we sure have... *thinks about what she and Zap have gone through in Alola*
Zap: *notices* What's wrong?
Fabi: Nothing.
Zap: Sure...

(meanwhile)

???: *looking at a map* So Riolu, where do you think we should head next?
Riolu: *ponders a bit before hearing footsteps*
???: Huh? What is it?
Riolu: *points to where it heard the steps from*
???: Guess we better go check it out... *runs to where Riolu was pointing*
Riolu: *follows*

Fabi: *hears Pokemon cries* Wha... What was that?!
Zap: Woah! Fabi! You alright?
Fabi: Yeah, but I heard some Pokemon that sounded like they were in danger.
Zap: Well what are we waiting for then? Let's go! *dashes off*
Fabi: Zap! *sigh* Oh well, what do you do? *follows*

Meanwhile...

Riolu: *finds some Pokemon in traps* Ri-ri!
???: *pant* *pant* Man you're fast! So, what did you find - Woah! Who would do this?

Fabi: *makes it to where the caged Pokemon are* {pant, pant} What's going on here - {suprise gasp} WHO DID THIS?!
Zap: *catches up* I don't know, but whoever did is gonna get one heck of a beating if those Pokemon aren't released!
???: {thinks} Hold on... Was that...? *turns around to see Fabi and Zap* {speaks} Fabi? Zap?
Fabi & Zap: *sees the one who responded* Alexander?
Fabi: What are you doing here?
Alexander: Traveling just like you are. Though I'm not sure why someone would keep a bunch of Pokemon here...
Riolu: *tries to bust out the other Pokemon*
Zap: Let me help! *helps Riolu*
Fabi and Alexander: *nod at each other then go to help Zap and Riolu*

???: Looks like I have myself some things to deal with...

All: *try to free the Pokemon but fail*
Zap: Sheesh! This cage is held harder than I thought!
Fabi: Maybe for a normal person, but... *gasp* THAT'S IT!
Alexander: Huh? What is?
Fabi: Perhaps with enough attacks, we can likely break the cage!
Alexander: Well, if that's the case, Riolu! Try using your Force Palm on the cage!
Riolu: Ri-o! *starts using Force Palm on the cage bars*
Fabi: {thinks} It's a start, but it'll take more than one attack to break this. {speaks} Zap, do you think you can use your Confusion?
Zap: Wha? I-I'll try... *uses Confusion on the cage*
Fabi: Good, just hold on a bit longer!
Riolu: *lands another Force Palm, the cage being closer to breaking* {pant, pant} Ri-rii...
Alexander: Don't give up, Riolu! I know you can do this!
Riolu: *nods and lands another Force Palm*
Fabi: Hmm... One more should do it! Keep using Confusion, Zap!
Alexander: Okay Riolu, last blow. Now go for it!
Riolu: *dashes at cage*

???: Oh no you don't! *launches a net trap at Riolu*

Riolu: *sees the net coming but gets trapped before he could dodge* Ri-Ri!!
Alexander: Riolu!
Fabi: {thinks} So this was a trap? But who would want to capture our Pokemon anyway?
???: Alright you two! Hand over the Pokemon and nobody gets hurt! *walks out of the shadows to reveal a blonde-furred boy in black clothing*
Alexander: Wha... Who's this?
Zap: Gladion... Team Skull's very own enforcer.
Fabi: {speaks} I should have known you had set this trap...
Gladion: *hmph* How else were we supposed to get a hold of that Kirlia of your's.

*a Team Skull grunt appear from the shadows*

Gladion: You! Help me teach these punks a lesson!
Grunt: Yes sir! *sends out a Golbat*
Fabi: *scoffs* You gotta be kidding me... Zap, give them a Shock Wave.
Zap: Don't have to tell me twice! *fires a Shock Wave at the Golbat*
Golbat: *nearly one hit KO'd*
Grunt: *growls* Why you...! Golbat! Return! *sends Golbat back into a Pokeball*
Alexander: *frees Riolu from the net* You okay, pal?
Riolu: *nods*

Grunt: *sends out an Alolan Raticate*
Gladion: *growls* {to Fabi & Zap} Fine, then! It seems that I'LL have to deal with you two! *throws a Pokeball, sending out Type:Null*
Type:Null: *growls*
Fabi: *surprised* Oh no...
Alexander: What's wrong?
Zap: Type:Null is Gladion's best Pokemon. It may be a Normal Type, but its stronger than it looks.
Alexander: Hmm... *walks to Fabi and puts his hand on her shoulder* Fabi, calm down. I know its not everyday that you face one of those, but that doesn't mean you have to panic. We can do this.
Fabi: *deep breath* Alright. Me and Zap will handle Gladion. You two okay with facing an Alolan Raticate?
Alexander: Don't worry! We can take it! Right, Riolu?
Riolu: Ri-ri!
Fabi: Good. Now let's teach these guys a lesson! Zap, use Shock Wave on Type:Null!
Zap: Got it! *fires Shock Wave*
Alexander: Riolu, use Force Palm on Raticate!
Riolu: Ri! *uses Force Palm*
Type:Null: *mildly damaged*
Raticate: *halfway beaten*
Gladion: Why, you little...!

Gladion: Type:Null, Tri-Attack!

Fabi: Zap, incoming!
Zap: Huh? *sees Tri-Attack heading towards her* YIPES! *barely dodges, a hint of flame getting onto her scarf* Phew! That was close!
Fabi: *sees fire on Zap's scarf* Uhh... Zap?
Zap: What? *fire spreads to the point where Zap can feel it* Ahh! Hot-hot-hot-hot-hot! *takes off scarf* Grrr... That was my favorite scarf!
Fabi: Enough overreacting! Give it a Moonblast!
Zap: Alright, alright! *fires Moonblast at Type:Null*
Type:Null: *halfway beaten*
Gladion: What the... How did you-?!
Zap: That's what you get for damaging my scarf!
Alexander: Looks like its our turn! Riolu, Copycat!
Riolu: *copies Zap's Moonblast and fires it at Raticate*
Raticate: *down & out*
Grunt: No! Raticate, return! *sends Raticate back into its Pokeball*

Gladion: Hmph! Fine then... I'll deal with both of you then! Type:Null, use Slash!
Type:Null: *prepares to use Slash on Zap*
Zap: What the... *sees attack coming and flinches*
Riolu: *pushes Zap out of the way, taking the hit itself*
Alexander: Oh no... Riolu! Are you alright?
Riolu: Ri-o... *nearly defeated*
Zap: *gets up and sees Riolu's condition, gasping in response* Oh no... *goes over to Riolu* Why did you do that?
Fabi: It probably didn't want you to get hurt, so it saved you before the attack could land.
Zap: Wha... {to Riolu} You sacrificed yourself... For me?
Riolu: *nods*
Alexander: I'll let Riolu get some rest. Can you handle Gladion on your own?
Fabi: I sure hope so...
Zap: I know so! Besides, I owe it to Riolu for saving me back there!
Alexander: Alright, good luck you two!
Riolu: Ri-ri!
Zap: *looks at Riolu before nodding in response and facing Type:Null with determined eyes*
Fabi: Okay, Zap. Let's fin- *interuppted* Huh?
Zap: *cloaked in a bright blue light*

Alexander: *sees what's happening* Is she...?
Zap: *picks up her now damaged scarf and ties it around her neck* You may be strong, Type:Null, but NO ONE tries to hurt my friends! *aura intensifies as Zap begins to evolve*
Fabi: She's... Evolving...
Zap: *as she evolves, she becomes noticably taller than Fabi, her hair ((I'm just calling it that for now)) changing from small pigtails to a shorter cut style, the scarf around Zap's neck extends to a longer length - as well as undoing the damage (somehow) - as does her dress*
Gladion: What's going on?!
Type:Null: *braces itself*
Zap: *aura disappears, revealing that she is now a Gardevoir rather than a Kirlia* And don't you forget it!
Fabi: *speechless, crying silently due to emotional experience* *sniff*
Zap: Well, don't just sit there, let's get 'em!
Fabi: Alright then... *wipes tears* Let's show them what you can do!
Gladion: We'll just see about that! Type:Null, Giga Impact!
Type:Null: *charges at Zap*

Zap: {using sarcasm} Oh no, how will I escape this? {no longer sarcastic} *uses a form of telekinesis to stop Type:Null in its tracks and throw it into a nearby tree*
Fabi: No way... That was Psychic, wasn't it?

Alexander: Nice job you two! Keep it up!
Fabi: We will! Thanks!
Type:Null: *nearly beaten*
Gladion: (to Fabi & Zap) Grrrr...! You insolent pests! Type:Null, hurry before they can strike!
Fabi: {thinks} Its gonna have to recharge after a move like that... I should probably check the Pokedex while I have the chance. *takes out her Pokedex and reads some information on Zap's evolution* Hmm... Stronger stats AND new moves... This should be useful. {speaks} Okay, Zap, let's test out some new tricks you have up your sleeve.
Zap: Don't have to tell me twice!
Type:Null: *recharged*
Gladion: I don't think so! Type:Null, Recover!
Type:Null: *heals itself*
Fabi: Oh that's just great! Zap, use your Moonblast!
Zap: *fires a Moonblast at Type:Null*

Type:Null: *slices the Moonblast in half, smoke being creates from the impact*
Fabi: Now! Use Supersonic!
Zap: On it! *claps hands together, emmitting intense soundwaves at Type:Null*

Gladion: Grrr... Use Tri-Attack!
Type:Null: *tries to use Tri-Attack, but ends up hurting itself instead*
Gladion: What?!
Fabi: This ends now, Gladion! Zap, finish it with Thunderbolt!
Zap: *becomes cloaked in electricity and fires Thunderbolt at Type:Null*
Type:Null: *faints from impact*
Gladion: No! Grrr... Type:Null, return. *sends back Type:Null* You win this time, but you won't have much luck on our next encounter. *flees alongside the grunt from before*
Alexander: *unlocks the cage full of Pokemon* That'll be enough of that.
Riolu: *slightly recovered* Ri-ri!
Zap: *kneels down and pats Riolu on the head* Thanks for helping me out back there. You've got a lot of potential.
Riolu: *faintly blushes* Ri-o.
