Chetana grew up in a small town where she lived with her parents, her twin brother, Lakshmana, and their cat. Her mother worked as a carpenter and taught Chetana what she knew. Her father was a pirate, and so was often away from home. Both parents encouraged their children to hold strong morals and to always stand up for their beliefs. At 19, Chetana and Lakshmana struck out into the world to make their fortunes and eventually found themselves sailing with the Thousand Gears.

Gallows is the son of the family cat, and was brought along by Chetana to keep mice and rats from damaging the ship and/or getting into the food supplies.
