Art break? by Kdcgirl

So, I feel like the quality of my artwork has gone down. I just feel like my artwork is mediocre at best and I'd like to change that. I hate taking another break but I feel like if I took it I might improve. I'm not sure what to do...

You don't necessarily have to take a break from Colors to improve your art. You can experiment with things each time you draw and improve that way.

Also, what are the things in your art that you're least satisfied with? Coloring? Shading? Anatomy? Research stuff and play around! Have I told you about color theory stuff? I've told so many about it I can't remember who I've told and who I haven't...

If I haven't told you about it, @birdy posted two decent "videos" on here regarding color theory stuff. #colortheory It's rather helpful but if you don't fully understand everything at first, just mess around some. When I initially found out about color theory stuff innnn...2OI3 (I think) I didn't fully grasp everything and had to keep going back to the tutorial I learned it from (what I learned from was purplekecleon's "How I See Color: A Tutorial," btw)

@Krazy Katt111 I'm unhappy with a LOT of things actually. Shading, posing, backgrounds, heck, even my art style needs work! I just don't quite know how to improve.

Learning how colors interact, about shadows and how they "work" and about light sources helps with your shading. I advise you check out that thing that purplekecleon made. (what I mentioned in my previous comment)
Once you get a basic grasp on stuff, you can start paying attention to stuff in person. Like shine a light on something in a dark room and take note of how that light shines then reflects on other stuff in the room.

For poses ya wanna learn about the anatomy of what you're drawing, human, pony and so on.
There's a guy on DeviantArt... I can't remember his username at the moment. It's ... ... ... Nsio?... No...that's not right. Rrrrrggghh, memory, why you fail me? But he does stuff called "(his name that I can't remember) Explains:" I learned a lot from his stuff, including stuff about horizions, perspective, anatomy, dynamic and fluid poses, and more.

This sounds like a lot, but it's...well, it is but you take it in small bits and incorporate all of it into your art over--

--time.

Basically, my advice for improving is: go and seek out information for stuff. There's a lot of stuff on DeviantArt that is very helpful! Snoop around in "tutorials" on there. It's what I used to do frequently.

Thanks for the advice Katt. I'll be sure to do some research. I'll also be sure to check out that shading video as well. :D
