A light breeze rustled the treetops as, down in the house below, a small ginger queen was awakening.
One eye opened, then the second. The sun was coming in through the window, right onto her bed.
She yawned and stretched, pulling herself out of the crimson cat bed and trotting into the kitchen. As usual her bowl was filled with little hard pellets that, frankly, tasted of pretty much nothing. "Same old, same old," she grumbled, taking a single bite and then springing onto the window-ledge. She didn't have a catflap and couldn't wait for her owners to wake up and let her out the door.

She slipped down from the window into the grass and took a deep breath, delighted by the sounds and scents of the outside world. The bell of her collar tinkled continusly like a wind-chime as she charged across the lawn, kicking up leaves behind her.
Everything seemed as beautiful as ever; yet there was a strange smell in the air. The smell of another cat, but not one she knew.
Out of curiosity, she began to follow it.

As she drew closer to the bushes at the edge of the garden the smell grew only stronger, until she drew to a halt by the ferns.
"Hello?" She whispered.
A small, weak his came from in the leaves. A grey tom was lying there, eyes wide, covered in small scratches. One long, deep cut showed on his flank. "Who... who are you?" He growled.
"Jupiter." The queen replied calmly. "C'mon... you're bleeding." She grabbed the tom's front paw in her jaws and pulled him out of the bush. Now she could see him more clearly, she noticed how big and bright - almost luminous - his blue eyes were. "Stay here," she told him.
"I wasn't planning on going anywhere," he said quietly as she ran back to the house.

The humans looked shocked at Jupiter's sudden appearence at the door. She was mewling urgently, pointing her tail at the patch of grass where the grey tom lay. They came out and followed her down the garden.
"Oh, no..." one of them exclaimed when she saw the wounded cat. She picked him up gently in her arms - which he only just tolerated - and took him to the house, while they boy stayed for a second to pet her head. "Good Jupiter," he praised her. "You've done a very good thing."
Jupiter purred. "Just make sure he's OK..."
