The large core was created for it's resistance against the immense heat of the sun. The soil type on the planet has to also be resilient to solar winds and solar flares. Therefore the core can remain super hot and not evaporate. In other words the core is well isolated from the heat of the sun. Although the solar winds may remove a layer of the the soil but not all.
