I get the feeling they'll end up together.
I wouldn't be surprized if it was written into the show that Marko was destined to appear in Muni as a young adult, during a time when Star would need, and fall in love with, an ally like him; but her mother, fearing what she might develope into (in other words, she wanted her daughter to shape up sooner) chose to bring them together before it was meant to be ....
