haaaa that was hilarious. That last bit of advice was spot on. it's all about expressing yourself through you art. It doesn't always have to be amazing or perfect and not because something is currently trending at the time.
I draw for my own fun, as well as to enlighten others. I tried to do the popular tricks on Miiverse, like perfect dot shading, perfectly straight lettering, etc. but it gave me a headache. I started a fan comic series I drew in my OWN way, with lazy shading lines in comparison to others, and my lettering was never close to perfect, and bam, I still got 200 new followers in a MONTH (leading to a grand total of 1k for me) because I was drawing how I WANTED to draw, and it was still funny too, and everyone, including myself, liked it, because it was different, which is what art is about. true art (in drawn forme) is expressing how you truly like to draw, without the pressure of others.
aaaaaaa YES I've been wanting to say this for a long hecking time too lmao
when i first joined colors, i cared soooo much about likes, they were pretty much the only reason i drew. i literally cared SOOO much, i had a "posting schedule" and i would post a good painting every saturday at around 11:00 or 12:00, i would set a "goal" number of likes, i would usually just draw the stuff i knew was gonna get lots of likes instead of the stuff i actually wanted to draw. i would wait a few hours then check to see how many likes i had, and if it was under my goal (a lot of the times, it was) id feel like a failure and sometimes id even add to the desc of the painting something along the lines of "only 25 likes...? i worked so hard on this and it deserves more TTnTT" like srsly tho it was so pathetic. it was like my will to live depended on likes (it kinda did actually). and now, i honestly dont get as much likes as i did when i only drew for likes, but i could care less, im so much happier now lmao. i really just wish i could go back and tell my 12 year old self to get a life, make some friends, and stop trying so hard. because if you only draw for likes, youre gonna have to face alot of dissapointment lol
drawing for yourself and your friends will make you much happier than drawing for the likes BUT saying that really doesnt help people sadly. i remember being told that when i was 12 and cared only about likes, but it didnt affect me really. its something you have to realize on your own i guess lol
