Very helpful tutorial, I don't think you failed at all! I never know exactly how I want to shade hair, so it usually ends up all over the place XD

Perhaps you should use one layer for hair color and shading ^^
Skin apart with shading, clothing with shading and a background
Usually I like to use te layer of lineart with the eye coloring and shading to save some space Glad tou find it useful ^^
