- Chapter 2 -

Alexla and DarkSage led the group through the streets for the next hour. Everyone was talking relatively quietly out of caution and DarkSage was on high alert, usually jumping at any noise that was coming from behind him.

Sinatra was talking to T.S as they went along the abandoned streets of the city.
" So you are blind? " Sinatra asked, glancing up at T.S' horn as it glowed slightly, and he nodded. " Yep. This spell lets me see though. Granted, only in black and white with a few acceptions of certain colors. That's why my horn is always glowing. "
" Wouldn't that drain you though? I heard some spells can take a toll on a unicorn's magic. " Sinatra gave him a puzzled look and DarkSage cut in.
" That is true. Some spells, depending on both the power of the spell and then strength of the unicorn's magic, can drain them to either cause their magic to be temporarily useless for certain ammounts of time and drain them physically if they push themselves, but some spells like-

those can be cast for long periods of time. Do you recall our old friend DarkValley? The groundskeeper at the graveyard. "
Sinatra nodded. " I remember talking to him once or twice. " He said.
" He's able to cast a simillar spell. Funny enough, also granting him the ability to see, except spirits of the dead and not sight in general. But it's in the same vain of magic that grants you a certain helpful ability that some ponies are either lacking or are gifted with. Like DarkValley, and T.S here. "

T.S looked at DarkSage surprised. " You know your stuff about magic for an earth pony... No offence. " He said, and DarkSage grunted. " Offense taken... I'm an alchemist. One of the few earth ponies who can use magic the-... traditional way. " He said, and T.S raised an eyebrow. " You mean with tomes... So you can read magic too... Okay. I'll admit it. I'm impressed. And don't get your tail in a twist. I don't have anything against earth ponies. It just surprised me how much you knew. "

Alexla called from ahead of the group and got their attention. " I hate to interrupt but I think it's time we call it a day. We have about two more hours worth of daylight and we need to find somewhere to set up shelter for a while. " She said.
With that, TeslaGlow levitated her journal out of her saddlebags and joined DarkSage joined Alexla. T.S followed. " Easy. These are appartment buildings. We set up on one of the lower floors, baracade the halls and make sure everypony knows what floor and room we're in and we have an easy shelter and a vantage point. " T.S said.
DarkSage cracked a smile and Alexla nodded. " Smart... I like you already. Tesla! " She called, getting her attention, and trotted over to her. " I want you, Wraithella and VelvetMystery to check this building and see if there's somewhere decent for all of us to stay. "
TeslaGlow looked up at the massive building and laughed nervously. " Heh-... Yeah... No problem... " She mumbled and called to the others, making her-

way inside.

Some time had passed and Alexla had begun paceing and DarkSage pointed it out with a smug look on his face.
" Huh? Celestia... I'm turning into you. " She teased and DarkSage frowned. " It's a nervous habit. " He groaned, looking over to see TeslaGlow trot out the building looking surprisingly happy.
" Sixth floor, third room. I hope you all like stairs. " She said with a smile.
" Nicely done Tesla. I think we all deserve a rest after everything. Come on everypony! " Alexla called, and everyone followed her inside.

Alexla opened the door to the abandoned appartment and looked around. It was surprisingly clean for being abandoned, aside from some toppled over furniture, cobwebs and dust.
Wraithella and VelvetMystery already seemed relaxed and were talking to each other. T.S made his way inside and smiled. " Well... You sure are lucky. Normally these places are a grusome mess. "
" That's reassureing... " Sinatra mumbled nervously and trotted inside.

Alexla sat down in a corner, sighing in relief. For once she felt safe in the wasteland they were forced to life in. " Everyone, make yourself comfortable. This is our home for the next little while. I saw there was only one bedroom Tesla? " She asked, and TeslaGlow looked over at her, nodding. " Yes. One downfall to this room but it was the first one that seemed good enough for everypony. " She answered.
" Not a problem. " Alexla said, looking over at BlueBird. " Blue. You can have the bed. I'm fine with the floor. Carpet is still softer than dirt so I'm okay. " She chuckled slightly.
" Aww! How come he gets the bed? " Wraithella whined and Alexla gave her a look. " Because BlueBird is the youngest. We're all adults here, we can suck it up and take the floor or the couch. ... Most of us are. " She said, glancing at T.S who glared at her. " Very funny... " He muttered.

" Me and DarkSage will be in the bedroom also. I'd feel better if we were with BlueBird in case something happens... " GrayShade said, and DarkSage stayed silent, standing next to him. Alexla smiled. " Hm hnm... I understand. You all get some rest if you want to. We'll try to be relatively quiet. "

With that, everyone made themselves at home and it wasn't long before they all fell asleep.
