- Chapter 1 -

Several weeks had passed since the small group of ponies began their journey to Manehatten.
It was becoming increasingly obvious that they would soon have to ration food and water between everyone as there was nothing left of the land except dead trees and dirt. The ocassional half dead bush offered nothing, and water from lakes and ponds were quite difficult to find.
The walk had taken its toll on everyone.
From those who took turns watching over those who slept each night, those who carried supplies in their saddlebags, and everyone agreed they were sick of walking at the end of each day. It didn't help that they also had several run-ins with mercenaries and the goulish ponies who had a taste for blood blood. Thankfully DarkSage, Alexla and Wraithella were able to defend themselves with only minor injuries.

GrayShade did his best to keep everyone's spirits high and for that, Alexla was thankful when she began to have her doubts.

" Are we there yet? " Wraithella asked, skipping alongside TeslaGlow, who trotted slowly along, levitating her journal and wrote down a small list in it. " Actually-... Yes Wraithella! We are! " She said excitedly, closing her journal and trotted up to Alexla and DarkSage. " Alexla. Sage. I made a list of things we'll want to look for to help us secure a shelter in Manehatten. Also I suggest we think about our more-... Fragile members of the group. " She said in a slightly whispered tone, lookong over at Sinatra and VelvetMystery. Alexla gave her a slightly confused look and DarkSage listened but continued to stare out into the wasteland that was no doubt once a green landscape.
" What do you mean? " Alexla asked, and Tesla gave her a concerned look. " Well-... I don't want to sound like I'm being rude, but-... Y'know... They need a little help and it might be -

good that we find a safe place to let them stay while some of us are out once we reach the city. We're only four hours away by now if I know Equestria well enough. "
" Are you saying we leave them behind while some of us go scavenging? " DarkSage looked over at her and TrslaGlow nodded. " Yes. Not alone obviously. I doubt it takes all of us to do that anyway but I'm just letting you know, they might need more attention... Also-... I-... Wouldn't leave Wraithella in charge or leave her with them alone because she has a tendancy to play with sharp objects, and that's not something they should be allowed to be around to be around. "
" Hey! " Wraithella shot Tesla a look and Alexla made a face. " Right... I-... Suppose you have a point... Grim as it may be, you're correct. No worries. We have things under control. " Alexla assured her, and GrayShade joined them.

" Me and BlueBird could be the ones to look after them. They know me best and BlueBird's been around them. He helps keep them in good spirits. That, and I'd rather have him safe with me and the others rather than scavenging. " He said. TeslaGlow smiled. " That'd be perfect. Thanks Shade. " She said, rejoining Wraithella, and the two began talking and laughing about something.
GrayShade looked ahead and focussed on something in the distance.
He could begin to see the city come into view. Except he could also see that some of the large skyscrapers were leaning on each other as though they had been destroyed or fallen.

Everything was quiet as they got close to the city. They followed the train tracks that they had finally run into and it took them to the outskirts of the city where the train station was. A road was there to lead them into the city and everyone was finally able to see it up close.

" Well... Welcome to Manehaatten... " Alexla mumbled, looking up at the massive buildings.
Everything was abandoned. The buildings had seen much better days and the city was dead silent. VelvetMystery shivered. " Home sweet home... " She gulped and Alexla looked over at her. " You grew up here? " She asked. Velvet nodded and tried to force a smile on her face. " Yeah... Me and Sinatra did... We didn't know each other until we met in Ponyville but this was our home... "
" Psh... " Sinatra huffed, glancing at Velvet who shrunk away once she saw the look on his face. " It's almost satisfying to see it in ruins... " He muttered, and GrayShade scoffed. " Sinatra, that's horrible. "
" You know why. " Sinatra shot back and GrayShade nodded. " Yes, I do, but that's no reason to behave like that. "
Sinatra fell silent and stared at the ground, mumbling an apollogy.

Alexla began to trot down the road into the city slowly. " Everypony stay behind me... DarkSage, take the rear... We don't know what could be around he- " Alexla was cut off by another voice coming from somwhere near them.

" Well, what do we have here? You're a strange bunch, aren't you...? " A unicorn said, making his way out into the open from an allyway.
Alexla's horn glowed and she spread her wings, standing defensively in front of everyone and DarkSage groweled, paceing next to her, not taking his eyes off the stallion.
He wore a scarf around half his face and his horn gave off a slight glow as well, as if he was using magic but nothing Alexla or DarkSage could notice.
" Mercenaries already..? " DarkSage said quietly to Alexla who shouted at him. " Who are you!? I suggest you stop with the magic. You're outnumbered. " She called, and he laughed, shaking his head.

" Easy there, "princess". " He said sarcasticly, looking at Alexla, who looked back at everyone. " Why does everypony keep calling me that? " She huffed, turning back to the stranger.
" No need to get all defensive... It's not me you need to worry about anyway... You know, I've been watching you since you got into the city. Thought you were some of those-... Hunter, goons. "
" Hunters..? " Alexla gave DarkSage a nervous look and the stallion continued, trotting up to them. Alexla lowered her gaurd and let him get closer.
" Then I saw him... " The pony said, pointing a hoof a BlueBird. " They don't keep kids ariund... Who are you anyway? " He asked.

" We came from Ponyville... We're looking for shelter, supplies, and answeres as to what happened here. " DarkSage told him.
He nodded. " Hmm... Name's T.S. Don't ask for more 'cause that's all you're getting... I'm just glad to see ponies around who aren't phycopaths, mercenaries or murdurers. "

Alexla stepped forward. " You're on the run? " She asked.
" In a way... More just trying to stay out of dodge of that mare I've been hearing about... You'd best be warry if you plan on going through here. " T.S said in a dark tone.

Alexla and DarkSage exchanged looks and nodded. " I'm Alexla. This is DarkSage. We lead this group... Behind us are GrayShade, BlueBird, Wraithella, TeslaGlow, Sinatra, and VelvetMystery. ... Since you seem to be in a relatively simillar situation, how about you come with us..? We look out for each other. And considering you were honest and haven't tried to kill us, I'd say you're worth giving a chance. " Alexla said.
T.S thought for a moment and chuckled. " Hm... You all are one interesting bunch of ponies... You're certainly remnants on an Equestria that's long gone, my friends. ... Count me in. " He said with a slight grin.

Alexla smiled. " Welcome to the team... "
