The mask keeps him from biting. He can get away with not wearing it sometimes, but that's mostly when he's outside and away from the staff. He'll only bite humans though. He doesn't do much to any other creature. He did try to eat a squirrel once, but he didn't like the fur in his mouth so he dropped it.
