This version of scenting happens when both partners has to be apart for a long time, leaving their scent reassures their partner and protects(Kinda) them from other grabby Alpha/Omega/Beta.

In these two's case, Sousuke(Japanese guy) is leaving to go back to where he is from. He can't exactly stay because he is an important person in his homeland(a general). Same goes for Mathieu who is a high ranking royal soldier(one of the kingdom's best dragon slayers) aaannnddd Mathieu is wearing his formal clothes which has his family crest on it...Also, Sousuke, like Soujiro in LH, leads an army\cough\harem\cough\ of female warriors that are smitten, protective, loyal and attached to him
