The flowers are not golden in the underground, they change colours depending on mulitple factors and this is why Flowey can change petal colour at will (Except black and white).

Flowey will try to manipulate you partway through your journey, saying the attack at the start was, "Just a test, I would never hurt my best friend!"

He's a bit more childish than most floweys and gets very close to the human (but this does not stop his plans)!
