Pirates of the Caribbean

There's a phenomena I've experienced multiple times that I like to call Jack Sparrow Syndrome (I'm also considering calling it Iron Man Syndrome, but that's not relevant). Basically, it's where a character is so unique and entertaining that you and many other people can't help but find them enjoyable. Over time though, you find that the character wasn't as interesting to you as you first thought. Sometimes, you may even realize that their performance overshadowed another character that you end up liking much better. In this scenario, that character would be Barbossa.

That being said, Barbossa doesn't seem like such an interesting character on the surface. He's your stereotypical pirate with the familiar accent and a tendency to pillage, plunder, backstab, and do other terrible things. I think what makes him enjoyable though is the performance done by Geoffrey Rush. It's so over the top that you can tell he's having fun with the roll, and I can't help but find it fun as well. There's not really that much to say about him, I just think he's fun to watch.
