Yvette. by Feldspir

Yvette, as in “yew tree.” Which makes sense because she was found abandoned as a baby next to a yew tree. No one knows her past because of that. No one knows that she was a daughter of the head of a village deep within the forest, or that the village even existed.

But the village seems fine with her gone. The next head of the village was already predetermined. A son was already born before her. The current village head during that time yet hoped for another son, but came along her. Uncanny her. It was never heard that a daughter was ever borne from the bloodline.

She was treated as a freak, and two to three months passed when they finally decided that she was to be abandoned. “She wasn’t going to be much of a use anyways,” the village thought, so there was no reaping. The mother had mixed feelings, but too thought the better of it. With that, they left her next to the yew tree to die.
However, she was picked up. A man traveling deep in the woods found her, about an hour after she was left to die, and taken to the village out of the forest.

Today, she’s living happily. Accompanying the man who found her to forage for herbs, and ended up being the one who made medicine for the villages. She didn’t so much as care for her past, because she had already determined something: That she was going to help others. It was a resolve coming from deciding that she wasn’t going to abandon others like she was as a baby.
