An Instance's Solemnity, Joyous and Peaceful... by Whale Fanatic

I am unsure as to how much I wept while painting this...'Tis something I had to portray after coming to know of the Eastern North Atlantic right #whale population's almost total depletion. Some of those researching this more miniscule group of no more than 16 have now considered them as functionally extinct, meaning that there aren't enough individuals to maintain a healthy gene pool...
And what shatters my heart the most is thatthey werethe friendliest and most inquisitive ofthe Mysticetes. #wc269

Maybe they're capable of hybridizing

(Continued rant from comments...) As human beings, we took advantage of their curiosity, whalers having exploited them the most in the past due to this trait as well as their relative sluggishness and ability to float when dead (their blubber makes up only 40 percent of their weight, so their interior is hollow, allowing less density). Nowadays, ship strikes and net entanglement (this makes for more than half of the North Atlantic right's mortality rate) continue to decimate this fragile species. Many calves lose their mothers and end up beaching themselves. While the western population has slightly increased in number, the eastern, of course, seems to have a bleak future. XC They're suffering the same fate as the baiji river dolphin, another beautiful animal unique in that it was the last living of a family of species that provided the closest link to cetaceans' ancestors, and may have also been the most intelligent of the dolphins... Its virtual extinction came early in the form of

@Soul-the-Dolphin The two populations occasionally meet, so there may be a hybrid or two, but it wouldn't be the same... xc The eastern population's customs and history will fade away...

Thank you. < : ) Yep, we just tend to live in a crazy world. Or just, rather, that many whales and other cetaceans aren't 'visible' enough to modern society. Most people have good intentions and want to do the right thing, but it is not until they are properly aware that they will feel particularly motivated to take action. It may be too late for this population of North Atlantic right whale, but perhaps this will stress our need to act as good stewards of the remaining numbers of cetaceans and their environment by reducing the impact of climate change (as it is now futile to stop entirely, for the adverse effects have already begun to take place) usage of plastic, seafood consumption (to prevent overfishing and decrease the number of nets and fishing equipment that threaten many varieties of marine life through bycatch or entanglement), and other such means...Pardon for the conservationist rant! XD

You have every right to rant. Nothing good ever happens when people do nothing.

What are you depressed about?

And if you think my mother has a trace of decency despite all that's happened, you're wrong. Last night she sent me a ridiculously long ranting text and the only thing I read from that is the first line calling me an imbecile. I know the rare instance she tells me she cares and loves me are all lies. My boyfriend loves me more than she does

re: yeah, I'm over it now. my dad is more that way than she is though. its hard when you live in a religious community/family because almost no one agrees with you. like, stop using a 2000 year old book to justify your close-mindedness. I mean yeah you can have your freedom of religion or whatever, I'm all for that, but stop feeling persecuted when the right of persecuting someone is taken away from you. (idk if that makes sense or not). sorry I'm rambling. this argument is so old and frustrating.

re: wow, thank you for that (and haha no it's totally fine, I enjoy hearing other's points of views. uwu
I think I have similar belifs/views, if not exactly the same. My parents stick to whats in Genesis and Exodus, with God created this and that (which, I do believe to a degree), but I choose to take it in a more figurative way, like you explained. I dont believe that everying was created in a matter of days. There is scientific evidence of The Big Bang taking place, plus evolution, ect, and because there is scientific proof, thats why I believed they happened. Now, with Leviticus (which seems to cause a lot of-

-trouble and arguments lol), these types of figurative representations can also be applied. Except for, with this part of the New Testiment, there are A LOT of things that are "out of date". Such as, you cannot shave, you cannot plant two types of different trees/plants in the same garden, you cannot eat pork, you cannot wear two different types of clothing at the same time, and that hom.osexuality is a sin. I can guarantee 98 percent of Catholics do not follow those first 4 statements above, but a lot of them definetly follow that last one. Why I try to ignore Leviticus as much as I can is because its inaccurate. So many things could have gotten lost ib translation, so you may as well be following a law that never even existed. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you shouldnt be pick and choose certain laws to follow and certain ones to ignore.

Ikr?? I'm actually super proud of me too xD I've never done this type of lighting, or any fire in general, so I guess its a pretty good first try. I think in about a year I'll do a remake of this, just to compare my style/talent right now to the difference it will be later.

And yeah, this anime is probably one of my favorites, if not my all time favorite. Its called Ginga Densetsu Weed :3 its a sequel to Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin (I think I spelled that right?). It's a bit old, but even so its pretty epic.
