Asgore could be Jasper or Garnet. Something intimidating. And I think Gaster should be Onyx. :) And just to be funny Monster kid should be fool's gold (even though it's not a gem.) or cubic zircona. (however it's spelled.)

Re: Maybe there should be a backstory as to how they became gem monsters. Like, for example, the monsters were forced underground into a cavern filled with magical gemstones that melded themselves to the monsters and they did this because they suspected the monsters wouldn't survive or something like that. I don't know, I've never been good at story telling. :p It wouldn't work anyways because the humans are already part element,
