Jakku Star Destroyer by Cuthalion

Whelp. I wanted to try out a simple landscape, but got a bit ambitious with my reference material and got lost in the details of the Star Destroyer. This is very much a work in progress... hopefully I'll finish it one day but I'd better learn how to paint landscapes first :p

Landscapes can be overwhelming sometimes but the thing I find to work best is to start with the overall look and feel of the painting by doing basic shapes and then go in and start adding detail. I have a bad habit of doing too much detail at first and then get too much going on..sometimes simple is better check out papercut on here he is great and a lot of his paintings don't have a lot of detail but they are epic still. Don't get discouraged keep drawing.:-)

@gidleyGRAFX Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I have a terrible tendency to worry about details too much, especially in the early stages, which often leads to me feeling overwhelmed and not finishing the drawing/painting.
I've been following papercut for probably about half a year now, and I absolutely love his (her?) work! I was actually inspired by papercut to do this painting...
Cheers!

Cool! You made one, that's a great start! The initial error I spot is that the shadow of the destroyer is way darker than any shadows on the hill, yet the light side of the destroyer is brighter than the hills.
Try to make sure that all objects within the same distance from the viewer have a smilar contrast between light and shadow.

Looking forward to your next go at it!

@Papercut Thanks! I didn't get very far on the hills or foreground, and only played around a little bit with the contrast of the destroyer...
Thanks for the comment :)
