Tigris was born to a wizard with some frost giant ancestry and an oridnary woman. This meant that there was a chance of Tigris having no magic. She showed no signs of magic when she was young so it was assumed she had none. Tigris, on the other hand, believed that she would have magic some day and become a great hero. Her mother, wanted her to pursue more realistic goals, ones that didn't include magic. This caused tension and lots of arguments between the two, her father stayed out of it as much as he could. To get away from the stress Tigris started to spend more time outside, climbing trees, exploring, and reading. It was during one of these outings, that she discovered a small kitten stuck between the branches of a tree. Once she had reached the kitten, she was surprized to see it had wings and antenae. Once she had moved the branches, the kitten glided towards the ground and looked back up at Tigris. (gtg, will finish later)

Tigris climbed down the tree and offered the kitten some food, which it picked up and ran away with. Disappointed that her attempts to befriend the cat failed, she told no one of the enncounter. About a week later when Tigris returned to the spot the kitten was the there and she offered it more food, which it ran away with again. This seemed to be the routine until Tigris brought a fish that was too large for the kitten to run away with. The kitten seemed to be comfortable eating in Tigris's presence, so she decided to try talking to it as well. She started asking it questions, including "What's your name?" To which the cat meowed, and Tigris took this to mean "Maru" and that Maru was meant to be her familiar. When she got home she told her mom what happened. Her mom thought Tigris had made up an imaginary friend, but decided not to voice that thought knowing it would only lead to another argument. Instead she mentioned that Tigris still didn't have a wand and therefore couldn't

be a witch. Knowing her mother wouldn't buy her a wand she asked her father if he would buy her one. He believed in letting Tigris earn the money by working at his friend wand shop. Surely if she had any magical ability it would appear in a wand shop. So for the next few years, she worked at the wand shop taking inventory, cleaning, organizing the wands, and being a cashier. She was also learning everything she could about wandlore and magic while she was there. But she still couldn't find a wand that responded positivly to her. One day, when she was 14, after a customer caused some wands to fall off the shelves, she found her wand. It fit right in her hand and it felt like it was her wand. When she told the owners, they tried to take it away to see how it would react. The wand shocked the owners, so it was indeed her wand. (more to come)

So when she got home she told her parents the good news. Her mother, still in disbelief of her magical ablities, said that she couldn't be a real witch since she doesn't have a familiar. When Tigris brought up Maru, her mom just signed, "Not your imaginary friend again." Tigris became angry and her shadow started to grow, "Maru isn't imaginary!" She stopped her foot and a black tiger like dragon stepped out of her shadow and roared, echoing Tigris's frustration. Tigris, realizing what she had done, tried to calm down, and as she did the tigerish dragon shrunk down to slightly larger than cat house size. "Maru!" Tigris picked up the cat and then looked back at her mother who was quite frighted. "So I guess this means I can go to Segi?"
So yeah that's the backstory. Any questions?

Other random details that I forgot to add:
Tigris acutally has a few random abilites that she has learned as exploring other careers with out magic. Sword fighting, archery, ax throwing, and sewing are a few examples.
Previous classes she has taken are Familiar Study, Wand Making, Animation/Inanimation, Time, and Space.
