Sorry to hear that.
I used to watch my sister play faction-type Minecraft stuff, although I honestly never understood the point.

Ouch. I've found the most effective base I've ever made was an underwater glass cube, with at least 3-5 blocks of water on all sides. It's almost entirely impenetrable-and I'll never reveal how to destroy it. I would be offline for days, even weeks at a time and still come back to a perfectly intact base, surrounded by hundreds of failed attempts to get in. Eventually though, it got destroyed. I had stopped playing on the server by then so I was simply impressed.
