Matt Murdock was blinded as a child by chemical waste from an oncoming vehicle. Although he cannot actually see, the radioactive chemicals heightened his senses beyond normal human levels and has a type of 'sonar' which acts as his vision. He sought out revenge on the thugs who killed his father, which lead to the hero we know today: Daredevil, the Man Without Fear!
