I'd need to see more of your art to give you precise tips. But a few basic ones are to define where your light source is coming from with shading, use basic shapes as a base and build features and edges from there, and do not rush your art unless you are confident that it will appeal to people.

Another thing to do is to watch the playback of your favorite artists and art styles to get an idea of how they go about making their art.
