Daily 188 by Papercut

Playing around with color saturation to get some interesting effects. Turns out, flat grays work pretty well next to highly saturated colors.

Wow, this is a truly stunning painting! The coloring, lighting, and detail to the landscape make this look so perfect, and I feel like the castle here puts a mystical, fantasy feel to this, almost illustrative :)

This might be your most imoressive ones to date. You've been a huge inspiration for me since I discovered you. Any tips on how you choose your tone values?

@TheDeputySheriff Oh, cool! I didn't think this one would get that much response.
@FadingGlory Thank you! I didn't even see the castle, but I guess it's there now :)

@JJMAwaken Thank you, it's crazy how much lighting conditions and color actually vary in real life!

@Amin Thanks! Really? That's fantastic :)
Try starting out with fairly low contrast, imagine that the main light sources are switched off when you block in the initial shapes. When the composition works, turn on the lights!

@GidleyGRAFX Thank you! I give myself 30 min to come up with an idea for these. When time is up, I have to start painting regardless so "good enough" is usually how I initially feel about the ideas. Sometimes I get more excited about them as I start exploring, sometimes less so.

During the 30 minutes I usually look at photographs and visual candy from my favourite sites, or I just go outside and let my head spin.

@Aello Thanks!
