Wow, this shading is amazing! Great job. And, yeah, roses are confusing. All flowers are confusng to me, for that matter.

Roses' petals grow in a funny spiral that seems to get lost when we get to the bigger petals. They are incredibly difficult to draw from reference for me, but I have seen some nice stylized techniques on the internet on how to draw them from imagination that really help you understand them better.
