I did use reference, yes, but only to know what went where as well as colors, texture, ect. Of course this looks no where near as good as in the game itself, but i'm not really used to lanscapes or backgrounds so this was actually really good practice for me. In 2d because the 3d turned out weird and way more 'separated' than it should be.
