Another study roughly based on a photograph. The mineral had a very nice nacre-like glow to it, that I wanted to capture.

Do you often use reference images or draw from imagination?

Even If I paint from imagination, I will look up references after a while to push my knowledge of the subject and improve the image. A couple of the more recent images started based on a photo, but I still had to change around the composition and design quite a bit to get the result I wanted.
