Yeah I know what you mean, Ash saved his life as a charmander, then he evolved an started to hate him.
However this was because Ash was too weak to train Charizard properly, you know in pokemon games when you beat a gym they say that the badge will let you train pokemon under a crrtain level.
If Ash had the ability to control pokemon under level 30 and Charizard went over level 30 then Ash cannot control Charizard until he gets stronger.
This is probably why Charizard shows respect for Ash when he`s in Unova, it`s because Ash is finally ready to work with such a highly levelled pokemon.
Yeah I agree he`s over hyped/ loved, but just remember that pikachu is much, MUCH worse.

Honestly, I like Charizard, only in the games though. In Pokemon SS, it was very reliable, especially since it could learn Dragon Claw & Shadow Claw. Outside of the games, he's very overated to me.
