Almost there.
She was so close.
The angel could feel the strength of it, she was so close she could almost just reach out, fly a little further and-
Something swooped in front of her, something red.
Blocking the sun with a bold silhoutte, was someone she hadn't expected.
What was he doing here? How did he know she'd do this? She almost fell back, but forced herself to remain aloft.
The angel knew that the other wasn't here to say hello. His face said it all. She knew she broke the rules, but she didn't know what could await her. She didn't know he would be there, face-to-face.
"Aedus? Wh...what are you doing here?"
His response sounded stiff, as if he were holding back. "...I could be asking the same for you."
"No, it isn't what it looks like!" she shot back, desperate to get out of this confrontation.
"Is it?" His face was as stiff as stone.
Carius was paralyzed in shock as she watched fire begin to ignite in her friend's palms.
"I have to do this, Carius. You know this isn't right." Aedus's voice caught, and Carius could see the pain beginning to show in his eyes.
"No..." she breathed.
His eyes snapped back into that empty focus as he raised his hands, still holding a blaze in each palm.
Her heart sank.
She didn't even see the fire coming as it engulfed her wings, sending her into a fiery fall from heaven.
