Not just that, but likes/favs and being popular in general.
It's incredibly stupid how so many people care about these things, and it get's really bad to the point where it controls their lives.
Honestly, grow the f*ck up.
It's pathetic and irrelevant. You don't need that kind of sh*t in your lives. In fact, it's unhealthy when people get so obsessed.
I just wish people could realize this.

It also starts all this stupid drama. There's already drama on social media, 24/7, no matter where you go. All this popularity cra.p is a huge reason why there's so much.
I don't get why so many people think it's so important, because it's not. It's unfortunate that so many fail to see this as a fact.
Where will it get you?
Sorry for ranting, but I've been feeling like this for a few years and need to get it off my chest. I would rant more but I'll leave it at that.
12 Sep, 2015, 2:25 am
people should just do what they love.
12 Sep, 2015, 2:26 am
not do it for popularity.

I laugh at the imbeciles who have created this miserable, pitiful society. I think that most people are idiots, anyway, and I agree with you quite wholeheartedly. Sense must be punched into some people.

AMEN

I'm with you on this. I upload only on colors and it's when I feel like uploading. I don't care about followers or likes. I upload to see how well I improve my artistic ability over time. I appreciate the support like most artists do. But I'm, in the end, here for myself.
12 Sep, 2015, 4:29 am
i hate when it matters //SO// much to people, although i do get really happy when i realise a handful of people care?
it doesnt take over my life it's just a lil thing to me i guess uhh
12 Sep, 2015, 5:29 am
True that
12 Sep, 2015, 6:46 am
but there's one thing. The amount of followers does show how many people like your art and care about you...
12 Sep, 2015, 8:56 am
People gotta have SOME way to validate their existence. *shrugs* Also your follower count is one away from the number of the beast, and that's pretty funny.
12 Sep, 2015, 1:48 pm
aahh i agree with this of course, but i still find myself awaiting my next "milestone" in my number of followers ; 0 ; i know it really doesnt matter, but i feel the need to be thankful for my followers ; < ; but i agree, the drama people cause over their number of follows or quitting because they dont have "enough attention" is absurd
12 Sep, 2015, 2:18 pm
^ im really bad at explaining things im sorry
i mean, i still congratulate people when they reach a number of followers that they feel proud of
in a way, you still have to "earn" your followers, and that might be why some people care so much
But i agree that people shouldn't cause such a big deal about how many followers they 'deserve' when they only care about making their follower count bigger instead of caring about the people who had already followed them (if that makes sense)
12 Sep, 2015, 2:20 pm
You tell 'em, girl! I wish people wouldn't let their amount of likes and followers consume them...
Although, I sometimes try to imagine what it's like to be one of the people here who only have 4 to 20 followers on average. I try to understand how lonely it feels when nobody is there to appreciate your art, and that it uninspires you to continue drawing on Colors.
I've never been to that point though, my very first painting is one of my top-liked, and I was already practiced at art when I first joined.
But yes, for some people, they think likes and followers are more important than their own enjoyment in the arts. They rant when a painting doesn't recieve many likes/comments, and they whine when they lose a follower or two. Really, that's going to make more people unfollow you.
12 Sep, 2015, 3:21 pm
likes and follows only matter to me because its the only way i can feel like someghing like anything i only have one friend and a few more but i am hated so much by so many people and on here there isnt as much hate and there are people that are nice to me instead of ignoring me and avoiding me they talk to me and like my art i know its not much but its enough to keep me happy and how can you say this you get tons of likes and your probably popular in real life too so how would you know what its like im not trying to be mean but this ranting IS the drama it causes way more drama that follows and likes
12 Sep, 2015, 3:25 pm
i have been here for 3 years and i only got up to 58 follows suspended 3 times bullied there is even a acount that is just there to insult me DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT ITS LIKE!having someone there just to make you misrible here it is! @shut-ya-gab @silly idiot both there to get people to hate me
12 Sep, 2015, 5:33 pm
It seems that some people are gwtting the wrong idea with what I'm trying to say.
I'm NOT saying that populairty doesn't matter at ALL. I understand that it is a nice feeling. When you recieve support and comments and all that, it feels great.
My point here is that people shouldn't care about it so much to the point where it's controlling them, and if they end up feeling sad or angry about it.
The reason you make a social media account should be for YOUR own puposes, not others.
For example Colors, you should be on here for your own enjoyment, not to gain follows and likes. They're a good bonus of course, but they are in no way ESSENTIAL. You should be on here because you enjoy it. You shouldn't force yourself to do something that you're not enjoying, especially if you're simply doing it for popularity.
I hope that clears some stuff up.
12 Sep, 2015, 5:36 pm
I honestly would love to have more followers- not because of the 'popularity', but because then I feel that my art is actually appreciated, that people look at it and think, "Wow, that's pretty cool looking."
Because I've got low self-esteem, I think it all looks like sh1t, so it just really makes my day when somebody comments on or likes my art work.
It's not always that people want the popularity, guys.
Sometimes they just need a hug and a slap across the face saying that they aren't total idiots that only draw the sh.ittiest things imaginable and they've got no reason to feel like they can't even do the thing they love right.
12 Sep, 2015, 5:56 pm
Re// Again, I feel the same. x'D when I'm bored and I don't want to draw any of my OCs I look at others charaters and I go straight to drawing them xD
12 Sep, 2015, 8:58 pm
I will admit that I enjoy recieving recognition as an artist, but I stopped caring for number of followers, or likes recieved a long time ago. They're nice and all, but it doesn't really get you anywhere as an artist, or carreer movement for that matter.

Well ever thought where the need for validation comes from?
Most of the time, it's not just a shallow desire for power and "kingsmanship".
Some are trying to approve themselves for deep emotional imbalances, feeling the only way they'll ever become balanced is to find that others accept them and "love" them.
I think art is a big target for these kinds of people because it allows them to express themselves, in a way that they might not have been able to express themselves before, and it allows you to hide your emotional imbalances behind the art.
Honestly popularity and artistic values don't mix. Half the art worth millions today, was not even known about in that artists time.
It's most definitely a issue when popularity is controlling everything you do, but hardly any of those people that have allowed that person to gain popularity will even get close to scratching the surface of whatever evil thing has crawled so deeply into the artists' heart and mind.
It's truly something only they can access and address, and only if they want to. :c

I can agree with you on the fact that followers and likes shouldn't matter and is unhealthy to worship.
To people who don't get a lot of follows or likes in the long run though, it would feel frustrating that a lot of people don't pay attention or care about them, especially if its a popular person telling them that "oh likes and follows don't matter, no biggy." Its kind of like friendship circles at school or other public places: there's the popular people who are friends with all the other popular people, and then there's the people who wish they were that popular and wish they could be in that friendship circle. We all have a natural craving for attention, that's why majority of people go on social media in the first place. That's how they generally enjoy it. (not all, but most.)
Though, yes, it isn't healthy to be obsessed with it. Some people care about followers and likes for different reasons, whether its getting friends or being inspired to make more art through likes, or even feeling better about themselves. It kind of IS essential in this place, depending on what you're aiming for. While its a good thing to encourage people that its unhealthy to obsess over popularity, don't put all people down for wanting some attention, where they probably get little to none in their lives. Just my thoughts.

I agree completely uou
13 Sep, 2015, 8:56 pm
Ikr? I stopped caring about that so much. Comments are the main thing I want to see because it tells me how well I did with my art.
14 Sep, 2015, 8:02 pm
I completely agree, preech it.
Social media really seems to be controlling people
15 Sep, 2015, 8:30 pm
The thing is though, why else be here if it isn't for popularity (or other "bad" reasons relating to ego)? It could be for friends or for feedback maybe, but other than that, I don't see why people are on this site if it's not for publicity. It's natural to want people to look up to you or like you. Humans are social animals, they interact with each other (and technically have "packs", human families are pretty much the same as wolf packs). Fans matter to people because it means they have some sort of status or rank. Now you tell me, why is it shameful to want to be popular or have fans, or try to be "cool" or go through phases?
17 Sep, 2015, 12:53 am
Well likes and comments are nice when i see ppl complaining about how little stars they get -.-
18 Sep, 2015, 12:42 am
I think most people care about how many like and comments they if you're honest with yourself. The whole reason for a "gallery" is to share your art and hopefully other people will appreciate it. That's the purpose for real life galleries too. Art is meant to be shared not just created for no-one to see. Just my opinions :)
