Well, I live in the U.S. Which is probably why you don't know about it.

9/11 was a morning (as you can assume on september eleventh) that caused trauma for the whole united states.

Multiple planes were hijacked by terrorists and were crashed into famous landmarks.

Two of those planes hitting the World Trade Center (a.k.a the twin towers). Thousands of people were in the buildings, and were brutally killed by the impact of the plane, poisonous gases, fires, and the collapsing debris.

Not only was the World Trade Center targeted, the Pentagon was as well, which is where the military stuff for the U.S. goes on. The pentagon was also hit by a hijacked airplane.

The White House was also targeted, but it was never hit. Instead, the airplane was crashed into an empty field.
It is assumed that the passengers on the air plane tried to rebel against the terrorists.

I reccommend watching a documentary, it'll be easier to understand.
