No reason to ever use the word "original." It's either yours and original, or it's a ripoff (I'm looking at you, Sonic fanbase!).

^ pretty much full on accurate, i simply see my creations as mine, no need to point out its originality. I dont particularly care for the sonic OC scene, i dont have any hatred for it, but never was my thing. I do wish fans would point out their creations were fan creations, rather than being original. But I digress.

Maybe you find it annoying because of association of the term with the "oregano charektur donut steel >:(((" type people who have neither original (or at least vaguely creative) character concepts, nor anything even worth stealing to begin with.

thats kinda probably true. Looking at it that way, its like the term OC isnt actually understood, but to each their own, id not want to encourage anyone to not drar what they feel like.

Y'know, the term "OC" does seem strange to use. But I honestly, I don't have another term for it, so I just use that. It's not like I'm forced to use it either way, so that's good.

When I see people showing off their "OC's" which are either neon colored hedgehogs, or neko school girls with a generic Japanese name, like "Yuki" or something, all I can do is facepalm xDDD But despite that, I use the term, because it's way easier than saying "main protagonist of a story I'm writing" <xDD But to each their own, bruh :y
