Hello and welcome to Hetalia explanatins, explaining and discussing certain things of History.
So the character Romano is quite interesting, being that he represents southern Italy, this may seem simple enough, but looking through History, there has never been a country called Romano... so who is he? Well Romano is indeed an Italian first name, and is derived from Latin meaning "a citizen of Rome" so that makes sense, and calling him south Italy can work too, however there is a country (cont)

(cont) that fits the description so far perfectly. The Kingdom of Sicily and Naples, or simply Naples. Naples is a country that took up the lower Italian penninsula, and Sicily so check that. They were indeed controlled by Spain so check, and they are infact ancestors of Rome so check.
Well there you go, now you know.
