To me it seems like a different world. A world with a lot of darkness and danger. They look like giant alien dinosaur-like creatures swimming through an ocean

Perhaps more like unnervingly green grass in a dark, swampy region blanketed in a black mist. Perhaps the grass is covered in glowing algae? Or maybe it's the lure of an ambush predator. It's very ambiguous. I like that :D
