@James: Almost always (with maybe one or two exceptions) these landscapes are plein air, usually with some later refinement. Older paintings I used to put a pink dot in the upper right corner when I stopped painting on location.
As for the hard round brush, yes. It's my tool of choice 99% of the time on my DS. It's the venerable workhorse of digital painting IMHO. You will almost always learn more, or understand something closer to it's core, or deeper, or faster, or simply clearer with the hard round brush. It's the best way to learn in a digital environment. But, I guess, each to their own.
no after i read that comment on one of your older pictures i started using the hard brush and i can already tell a big difference. stuff looks sharper. i never did a lot of digital drawing before i got colors so im still trying to get the hang of it. thanks for answering my questions :)

also i saw on a earlier comment from you said use the hard brush so all these pictures are mostly with the hard brush ?
