Try having the his mouth more open, and having his head at different angles. And put wrinkles on under his eyes to show confusion. Have him yelling in anger, or be pouty depending on his personality. Use body language with hands to show emotion, too. Hands can help make it far more expressive.

I like your art style. I'm practicing drawing people on here, too. I like the expressions here, but I think they need to be more exaggerated.
