Divination basically means time manipulation, prediction, and other future and past-related magic. Jarvis used this magical ability to 'borrow' his coat and scarf from a magician who lived many centuries ago.

Personality-wise, Jarvis is a funky junkie who likes to fool around! His lessons in divination have taught him just how important time is, so he doesn't waste a second being dull. One minute he's memorising a Dungeons and Dragons handbook, the next, he's getting experimented on by potion students. Having memorable experiences is his prime directive, with self-preservation as a small afterthought.
