He's a Paithan, a fairly Tribal species, but they have techology as high tech as it was back in the 80s.
Paithans have natural green markings covering their whole body, and though each person has their own original set of markings, some markings are passed down from their parents.
Dr. Forest is a botanist, meaning he studies and works with plants. Usually his experiments fail, infront of crowds usually, but when they work!... Usually nobody's around to see.

Though he begins as a Pacifist, he starts to learn how to fight later.
He starts with only tools for self defence... Pepper Spray, and a similar tool he made, called 'LO3', a fast acting, yet short lived Poison Ivy solution.
"Just remember this... Never, and I repeat, NEVER, spray LO3 into someones eyes! Not only will it hurt horrificly, it will also probably damage their eyes for years to come."
Later, he makes Low Power explosive seed pods, and a High Power one.
"The green one does a small, yet definetly painful explosion, the brown one will knock out enemies, and the big green one is like a real bomb... Just promise me you won't use it on a living thing, it's for destroying blockades and obsticles."
Lastly, he discovers how to make human-like and animal-like constructs from vines... They CAN fight, but are meant to apprehend, not ki.ll. They do this by using KO gas, or unraveling themselves to constrain the target...
Or, they knock them out with their 'arms', 'legs', 'etc.'
