Mika opened her eyes and lifted her head to the sky. She was sitting among the branches of a tree, balanced neatly and elegantly on one of the topmost branches. Suddenly she heard a voice, and she whipped around to look down through the leaves to see a fox beneath her! She froze and stared silently at the fox, hoping she wasn't heard or seen.

Mika's heart beat faster and her ear ring's gemstones shifted colors to a pale green, representing fear. The fox just spoke to her! Why did this have to happen? Slowly, Mika crept along the branch until she could leap off, and she bunched her muscles, ready to jump off and run the moment she hit the ground.

Rin flicked his ear as a fly flew by. Then he felt a poke. 'The hell... what was that..." He was saying, opened his eyes. "For...." he finished. He stared at Airi and there was a hint of surprise in his eyes. "A-Airi? What... how..." He tried to speak. It also didn't help that he felt the other strangers presence. 'I just wanted to sleep..' he thought to himself.

Mika hesitated before sitting back on the branch. Why, she wondered, was this fox getting so flustered around the newcomer? She didn't have a single clue. Maybe, just maybe, these two were different than the others? Before she knew what was happening, she was leaping gracefully from branch to branch, and soon her paws hit the grass beneath the tree. As soon as she turned to face the two foxes, she wished she was anywhere else but right there. Her gemstones shimmered and swirled with color, matching her emotions.

Rin wasn't looking at Airi, but rather more focused on the strange ptesence. "Well, we haven't seen each other in quite a wile and suddenly you're right here in front of me." He sighed. "And by poking me too...." He rubbed the place where she poked. "Don't do that... it's weird." He said half-heartedly, with a small smile.

airi:i was trying to wake u for u to move because i didn't want u getting annoyed by flies,so i was waking u to sleep over there-points-and yes i know someone is behind me,ur eyes are focusing on it-turns to her-

"I-I..." Mika stammered quietly. "I'm sorry, m-maybe I should just..." She glanced around nervously, looking for a place to hide. Of course, she thought, I could just MAKE a place to hide... But as she turned to face the first fox and his glaring gaze, she hesitated, not feeling able to leave him anymore.

Rin gave a small laugh. "You're funny Airi, you know I could have dealt with those flies." He then fully glanced over at Mika. "Who are you...?" He asked, curious.

"My name?" Mika squeaked. "I can hardly remember. I-I've never had to introduce myself to anyone... b-but, now that I think about it, it-it's Mika Shuzuru." Please don't hurt me, her mind added. She fluffed up her tails and curled them around herself. The grass around her was growing and shrinking and waving constantly, despite Mika's efforts to stop it. Whenever she got anxious, the same thing happened to anything near her.

Rin examined her and the grass. "What the hell..." He looked back at her and tried his best to ignore it. "Well that's great and all, but why were you up in that tree?" He asked with a bit of irritation in his voice as a little flame burst to life on one of the trees leaves.

"Augh, Airi what are you doing?? Let go of me!" He oushed her away from him gently.

"I was just sleeping!" Mika hissed, suddenly angry. "I have the right to do as I please!" The gemstones on her ear ring shifted to a burning, angry red.

Ice crept from strand of grass to strand of grass, outwards from Mika. She wondered if Rin liked foxes who could control ice. Probably not, because he controled fire, Mika thought glumly. "I can still just leave," She said as the ice inched closer and closer to Rin and Airi.

Rin sighed. "I'm a basta.rd. I don't know how to socialize, okay? That's why I lash out, why I'm a mess. I'm a pathetic idiot, I don't even know why anyone would want to be friends with me." He said bluntly. As he finished talking he noticed the ice and his mind immediately snapped to Yuki. His eyes widened as if he had seen a ghost and subcinsciously backed away. "Learn to control your powers... " Her murmured to no ine in particular, still observing the ice with a surprised look.

Mika was surprised at Rin's reaction, and she stopped the ice. "I-I'm sorry..." She whispered. "B-But, I want to be your friend, really, really, I do!" Mika stopped herself, and after a moment, she whispered, "Please, let me..." She stepped forward, brushing her banded tails against Rin, knowing that her fur would be a little cool after using her ice like that. [He's going to yell at me...] She thought sadly. [But then I'll leave, and I can have a new friend.]

Rin's muscles tensed at first at her touch. It was cool and he found himself relaxing, just a bit. It wasn't the same as Yuki, and he knew that. It felt almost nostalgic, though he didn't say anything about it. ".... If you really do want to be friends someone like me, be my guest. Though I can't guarantee it'll turn out well..."

Airi told Miki to stop because she knows how Yuki made him feel right? (I thought it was sweet of her)

Mika wanted to dive into Rin's warm fur and stay there forever. He was the first fox in years to become her friend! Mika found herself leaning forwards to nudge Rin's cheek with her muzzle happily. "Thank you," She whispered. Her fur had stayed at the same cool temperature, even though Mika didn't notice. Her fur had always been the same temperature as an almost-frozen lake, but it was normal to her, so Rin's warm fur felt amazing. She quickly pulled away though, because she didn't want to make him angry.

She also didn't like the way he flinched when she touched him. "... Is my fur too cold for you...?" She brushed up against him again, ever so gently, looking up at him with soft, worried eyes.

Rin felt uncomfortable and moved awsy from her a bit. "Err I understand that we're on our way to be friends, but isn't that a bit... too much?" He asked awkwardly, ear twitchng slightly. It was obvious he didn't feel at ease at the moment. One of his tails automatically brushed against Airi for comfort, not realizing his subconscios actions.

You don't have to force yourself to be my friend. Y-You're not an idiot, you know. You're so much more than you think you are..."

Mika takes a step back, then another. She glances around as if she expects the world to suddenly catch on fire. Suddenly her gaze comes to rest on Airi. Mika has never hated anyone before, but right now, she felt like shoving Airi all the way to the edge of the world so she didn't have to look at her face anymore. Mika tore her gaze away from the white-and-purple fox to look at Rin. For some reason whenever she looked at him and he looked back at her, she felt like her heart might explode out of her chest. Some kind of magic that he has, she thought. "I'm sorry for, um, being too close, I don't know why..." Mika's voice trailed off as she stared into Rin's eyes. There's something seriously wrong with me, she thought as she tried to tear her gaze away.

Rin noticed Mika giving Airi a bad look and bristled a bit, but it was subtle and he decided to to speak up for now. He would give Mika a chance. "That's fine...." He said slowly.

Mika closed her eyes and looked away before opening them again. She really didn't want Rin to think of her as some weirdo that doesn't have a brain! Mika turned to look at Airi again. She hoped that Airi wouldn't ruin everything. When Mika turned to look at Rin again, she realized that her tail bands were gone and a couple of her tails were moving towards Rin's. She let them brush against his tails, and then she left them there, hoping that Rin wouldn't mind her cool fur. "Rin... maybe you should take a nap. You seem tired after I... stopped you from sleeping. I can go away if that helps, too..."

Rin twitched in annoyance at her closeness. They had just met and yet she was already making unusual advances on him. He broke their contact and got up and stepped back. ".... Stop being so.., touchy with me." He chided, his eyes were colder. "It's weird." He said flatly.

Mika looked down at the tips of the tails that had touched Rin. A few hairs were charred black, and Mika felt stupid for thinking that touching him was okay. Of course he would get angry. "S-Sorry..." She mumbled. Rin said it was weird to do that. Mika didn't really know why it was so weird. She always had her mother to lean into, and now that she was gone, Mika felt like she needed someone else to be with. "I should probably go. I'm nothing but a bother to everyone I talk to." Mika said quietly. She looked at Rin again, wishing that she could bury her face in his fur.

Rin sighed and immediately turned away so he wouldn't have to look at the ice. "I'm fine Airi... but she was getting to be too much. We just met and offered to be friends and then she gets all touchy feely..." He groaned. "I need my space, and she's practically a stranger to me so the boundaries are stronger."
His eyes softened as he looked over at Airi. "Are you alright? I could tell she didn't like you..." He pointed out, his eyes filled with worry. "She didn't say anything to you, did she? You didn't say much and I was worried." She said, voice serious.
