Meet Ryou. A 17 year old man who has had the misfortune of experiencing a trauma that none would wish on their worst enemies: the loss of his parents, with him being the sole survivor of the accident, the worst of his injuries being the loss of his right eye. Other than that, only minor cuts and scratches.

Before the accident that forever changed his life, he was lively and active, particularly in kendo. He was also great friends with Kage, who even mentored him in the art of the sword. But after the accident, he was withdrawn, preferring to avoid contact with others out of fear of potential pain (hedgehog's dilemma, anyone? xD).
He blames himself for his parents' death, as they were returning home from his kendo practice when it happened.
(Huh... I wonder why this was what I came up with for his story... Kinda tragic. Never knew I could be kinda dark.)

As a result of the accident, he has dropped out of kendo club, and would rather not rely on his training for self-defense, yet he's even more afraid of the disappointment that may come from his old friend if he found out he completely abandoned the way of the sword, so if it came down to it, he'll brandish his sword and fight.

Nice! This is a really good back story. It's well detailed and explains his motivations and his connection to your other character, Kage. He also has a really cool design. The bandaged eye is a nice touch. Excellent job! : )
