Bases? by -DamiStick-

Most artists I see never use guidelines to draw, however, that is the only way I know how to draw (other than stick figures). You artists are really good! If I tried to free-hand draw, I would make something scary. I used to draw free-hand, and it was always boxy and two-dimentional. How do you better artists free-hand draw AND give the drawings dimention?

I personally always found it annoying wo work with guidelines, I feel it doesn't really help. I draw guidelines occasionally just to get facial structures/porportions correct, otherwise I don't use then. I feel they don't help a lot. The circle and line structure anyway. My first layer usually is of a rough sketch of what I want, then I outline that on another layer on top, then erase my rough sketch layer. But some people argue guidelines help with porortions, I disagree.

I grew up without guidelines, and I always draw people over and over again so it just naturally comes to me. Guidelines are a good thing, I wish I did use em tbh haha

Even without guidelines, I'm still good at it. I usually sketch the image and then I "ink" it. Lineless art is simply easy for me to shade.
