Tom is a water construct-- a kind of golem made with water. He's an imperfect model, so he finds it difficult to speak, he can produce a few halting words, but it's far easier for him to act out what he wants to say. Tom is naive, sheltered, easily startled, and book-smart. He'd like to be more social, but his difficulty with communication frustrates and impedes him.
