Art History is a load of-- by HowlingZero

Write an essay about the oppression of women? I thought this was an art class! I just want to draw boo--
So anyways, I've been rewatching Kaiji lately too. That show is UGLEH, but they do distressed faces like no one's business. One of my favorites.
And I don't know what to draw.
Scatterbrained.

I feel like it's worth mentioning, that's not the real prompt, of course, but the quotation marks could be misleading.
But seriously, Women's Art History. Or art history in general. It's a class where you tell teachers what they want to hear to get a good grade. With something as subjective as art.
And it's not a class about "creating" like an art class should be, it's a class about reciting. It's so pointless but it's a goshdang transfer requirement.
Eh, excuse the rant, I'm just frustrated by the American education system.

My art history was exactly the same though: "write an essay about some dead artist that drew some jesus painting in some church in some country". It's was pretty much that 95 percent of the time.

I feel you :/
This sort of thing is precisely why I physically can't take art classes anymore
All of the classes in my school are basically "You must conform to this one style and do everything exactly how we think you should otherwise you will fail and you will be ridiculed."
Art history is the absolute worst, though...

Yeah feminisim messed a lot stuff up. They took it to far and now ruin everything they touch. I hope I don't have to get a class like that...

^feminism isn't the issue. it is the ppl who use feminism as a shield for unnecessary or unprovoked hatred for men. REAL feminists just want equality for women in society. i hate how ppl use feminism as a shield and make it look bad and i REALLY hate when ppl DON'T understand that isn't REAL feminism.
anyways, i haven't had to take a drawing/art class since 8th grade :/
band counts as an art credit, so yeee i'm set.
although,i must say, i know the feels when it comes to having to do a specific style. it is annoying and stupid and lacks creativity.
but i managed and got A's.
never took art history. :/ but part of my AP world history class had an "art history" section after the AP test. but that was fun, b/c we just learned ABOUT different styles and learned to analyze art. then we made presentations on art and the backstory of the piece and artist.
it was good for an "end of the year" project :3

and this is why online art sites are amazing. sooo much creativity and freedom to draw compared to any class or such.
plus on here you can freely view talented artist's work and see EXACTLY how they did it and learn it to help your own style

Oh, I agree completely. Feminism is great, it's basically just equality. Like with any group, there's good feminists and bad feminists. Unfortunately, feminist is a bit of a buzzword now because the most outspoken ones are the bad ones... I just try not to get in the middle of it.
But yeah, in terms of making art, I've learned so much more from interacting with the awesome artists on here than I ever have from an art class.

Woah dude that's crazy winklevoss twins. I hope things don't get too stupid. Also the bad feminists actually have a nane. They're Misandrists. Just saiyan, although i do see what you mean by learning about art from here. If you saw my early stuff compared to now where i study playbacks of GOOD artists such as yourself, then it brings major improvment. Good luck spouting bull to impress teachers dude! It shouldnt be that hard

Ah, yes. That unfortunate little thing called misandry that feminism is often mistaken for.
Perhaps someday that misconception will be demolished.

Aaah, but once again, I agree completely
Art sites such as Colors and deviantArt before I ended up fleeing that place really helped me with my own style than art classes ever have.
I feel it's a lot better to learn by trading tips and the like with other artists than... Well... Just kind of sitting there in a classroom listening to someone try to tell you how to do art rather than letting you experiment for yourself...

-Master Serris

18 May, 2015, 3:48 am

yep, misandry. i know
i just wish SOME DAY misogyny and misandry would be gone, but ppl are ppl and that likely won't happen for at least a LONG time.

colors has helped my art SO much, more than any school class ;p

Yeah, art classes are bull in my opinion. You can't "learn" art. Especially in such a controlled, rigid environment where all expression is bleached and sterilized, purged of anything truly sincere or revolutionary. Why I've never done 'em, anyway. But, hey, maybe I'm wrong.

Ironically enough, my art textbook is the thickest one in the entire school.

That thing could stun an ox!

Thanks. That's what I was going for.

Like if I ever made a video game, this would be the starting build.

I'm glad and a bit lucky that I've had professors that didn't force any particular artistic style on their students. I hate when people try to get me to draw more realistically, I guess I'm just stubborn that way. ^-^'

Oh my SHORTS, I know the feeling, man!

Art Appreciation as a pre-req for NURSING.
Had to sit there in front of everyone and tell everyone why MARK ROTHKO was a genius... Truck grades, I told 'em outright "it's just a bunch of ugly squares to me..." Teach used it as an example on how art was different for everyone. XD

Re: Yup, xD Phyre isnt one to do that. But Wild Phyre on the other hand....*Dun Dun Duuunnnnn* O.O lol but yea, its just a "What would the child look like" kinda thing. x3 I may do one with every character. I really liked that mechanic in FE:A...which makes me wonder....with children make an appearance in FE:IF? o,o i hope so.

Ah, reminds me of my art class a while back in middle school. My instructor decided to have us copy the backstory word per word on a seperate piece of paper. I thought it was kinda pointless, but he gave us an insight on the lives of art creaters like Vincent Van Gogh or something like that.
It took a while to get to the nitty-gritty.

Maybe, in a way, he promoting life as an art.

Essays, though, that's exxcessive, yo!
