I think you're doing just fine : ) No one (should) expect you to be perfect. More often than not, people feel discouraged because they compare themselves to someone with more experience. But you need to remember that very, very few people were talented artists to begin with. Just keep practicing, and maybe try something new here and there to see if it works or not, You'll be surprised how often being spontaniously experimental has resulted in me discovering a new technique to use when drawing future paintings.
And if you have the time, take a look at some of my older paintings, and compare them to what I'm doing now. No one gets good right away, but persistant practice has brought me a long way.
