How's about a bit of time before the story actually beguins, Corinth switched bodies with a different world's copy of him self. This one thought that when he went over it was just a dream thing, so when he came he did whatever he pleased. This guy was suisidal, so instead of cutting his own skin he descided to do it to this guy's. Eventually and unfortunately, he did kill him self in his own body, but that just ment that Corinth stopped body switching with him. He kept the blade marks, though.
I dunno if that would work, but it sounded like it might in my head...
