Mermaid/man: your usual fluffy fairy tale mermy.
Siren: a darker, grim-ish (lol) mermy, usually unkind to humans and dangerous, but not always.
Selkie: Seal-like in the water, and instead of 'transforming' into human form, they just shed their seal skin to obtain human form.
Mermyd: I got this from the Water Trilogy by Kara Dalkey, but I use it to describe - cont in comments

cont - mermy hybrids (mermy but resembles humans more like w/ arms & legs that have fins instead of a tail, mermy but has octopus tail, etc...)
