re: To 'adopt' means to give a specificly created creature or species to only one other person.
ex: My species is a #skall. If you wanted one, you would have to ask for permission to 'have' one.
Or you could participate in an adoption where you'd comment on the page that you would like the one that is being presented.
Most people choose a 'winner' at random and vary in deadlines.
There are 'draw to adopts' as well where you draw whatever is up for adoption and the winner is selected based on skill, detail, or enthusiasm.
There are many different types of 'adoptions' and I hope I helped clarify things for you, even if it was slight.
